Businessman Review – Business Man Movie Review, Rating, Telugu film: Mahesh Babu is back after a mighty hit Dookudu as Businessman. He teamed up with Pokiri director Puri Jagannadh and it is no wonder the expectations are extremely high. Did Mahesh and Puri repeat Pokiri magic, is this going to be another Dookudu kind of sensational film at the box office? Let’s get into the details of Businessman
Story:

Surya (Mahesh Babu) comes to Mumbai with a sole aim to become “Bhai” for the city. He starts his mission by recruiting rowdies for monthly salaries. He eyes Mumbai Police Commissioner’s daughter Chitra (Kajal) and loves her. How did he become Bhai and turn out to a big Businessman, forms rest of the story.

Analysis:

There is no story in the film except for a line or two. Puri Jagannadh has written a character and fixed it in a setup. Mumbai mafia is the backdrop of the film. Hero enters the city when there are no opponents at all. So his aim becomes easy and he reaches to the top within no time.

There is a little flashback to him in his childhood, which has nothing to do with his goal though. Even the romantic thread doesn’t have the soul. Businessman is typical Puri film with loads of rowdies and cops scattered all over the screen.

Puri has been doing the same since Pokiri and this time he got the best man in business to be his Businessman. It is Mahesh Babu’s show all the way. His intense performance and powerful dialogues keeps the film alive. There is that humorous angle added to his character and he and only he entertains you as there are no comedians in this film.

Businessman will be liked by Mahesh fans and people who love action movies that defy logic and take all the liberties of filmmaking. It won’t appeal to audience who look for wholesome entertainment and a well written script with well crafted scenes.

Performances:

Mahesh Babu is the lifeline for this film. He excelled as Surya Bhai from the start to end. Watch out for his fire filled eyes and also his naughty one liners that he exchanges with Kajal. His fans will adore him as Surya Bhai.

Kajal is just okay. Despite having many scenes in the film, her character is poorly etched and therefore she failed to make an impression. Nazar is neat. Brahmaji is fine. Prakash Raj is routine. Sayaji does his usual things.

Technicalities:

Dialogues by Puri Jagannadh are the best part in this film. If you like a certain scene in Businessman that is because of the good dialogues in it.  There are so many thoughtful dialogues in typical Puri style. Thaman’s music is good. He did a fine job with the background score and scored a couple of real chartbuster numbers. Cinematography is neat, editing is slick. On the technical front, it is like every Puri Jagannadh’s film. Production values are top notch.

Direction by Puri Jagannadh is poor. Screenplay is racy but there is nothing to talk about. He simply placed scene after scene without much purpose. There are certain things in the film which demands director’s brilliance. But Puri didn’t mind to put in some mind into those. The film is completely away from logic and reality. It is a mindless entertainer which depends on the hero. As a director Puri did nothing to be proud of this product.

Final Word:

Businessman will set new benchmark in terms of openings. But will it sustain in long run depends on how other sections of audience react to it other than Mahesh Babu fans. Worth a watch for Mahesh Babu and Puri dialogues!

Bodyguard is back in an all new avatar and the film doesn't disappoint. Remake after remake has not diminished the essence of the film, perhaps because of the action scenes.

After being successfully made in Malayalam, Hindi, Kannada and Tamil, here comes the Bodyguard in Telugu.

The remake with Venkatesh and Thrisha has remained faithful to the Malayalam version as it does not focus on commercial elements as was the case with the Hindi remake.

The highlight of Telugu version is that it has been directed by a local, talented youngster Gopi, while experienced writer Kona Venkat has penned the dialogues.

There is a lot of native flavour in the way the film has been narrated, though the situations have remained unchanged. Thanks to the presence of several top artists in the cast, Bodyguard carries a lot of appeal.

Like previous versions, the last 30 minutes are the main attraction of the Telugu version as well. The film touches an emotional peak in scenes leading to the climax and the twist in the climax has a universal appeal.

Technically, however, it does not stand out.

In the film, Varadarajulu Naidu engages Venky to protect his daughter who has been targeted by his political rivals. Some years ago, Venky had saved Naidu from an attack. Venky escorts Naidu's daughter Keerthi everyday to college. Sometimes Venky's presence disturbs Keerthi and limits her activities. She wants to get rid of Venky and tries to call him as an anonymous caller. Venky is confused about this caller who always expresses her love for him.

Eventually Keerthi herself falls in love with Venky. In a stunning and touching climax, Venky's background is revealed.

Venkatesh has perfected the art of taking up such matured and emotional roles. Thrisha looks gorgeous and charms the audiences. Saloni plays an important role in the film, but she is not so impressive.

Top actors Kota Sreenivasa Rao and Prakash Raj score in their respective roles. Ali and Venumadhav bring in a few laughs.
Bodyguard is a perfect family entertainer. The well-performed and neatly presented film is sure to appeal to women and family audiences.

Story: Thirumurthy (Madhavan), who is scared of any sort of violence, is tricked by younger brother Gurumurthy (Arya) into taking up the job of a sub-inspector after their father dies in harness.

After Thiru is unwittingly put in the line of fire at his first posting in Thoothukudi, Guru arrives to help him handle the various goons that inhabit the port city and run various illegal operations. Thiru becomes the cynosure of all eyes and rises in stature after Guru does all the grunt work for him, but it is only a matter of time before Annachi (Ashutosh Rana) finds out the truth about the brothers and unleashes all his henchmen at them.

Movie Review: It is festival time and the season for bonding. In keeping with the mood, Thiru and Guru form a band of brothers that bonds with a band of sisters comprising Vasanthi (Sameera Reddy) and Jayanthi (Amala Paul). It is this bonding that works for the movie, and helps maintain audience interest.

In his second consecutive release in Tamil after "Manmadhan Ambu" in 2010, Madhavan displays an uncanny talent for comedy. He is perfect as the scared cat Thiru, who would prefer to remain in the background rather than take on the criminals but revels in the plaudits that come his way thanks to the hard work done by his sibling. Though there is nothing new in the scheme of things, the film remains engaging till this point and moves into mediocre territory once the character makes a U-turn from his timid behaviour.

Arya plays Guru with nonchalance, delivering one-liners and dispensing beatings with the same demeanor. Sameera Reddy and Amala Paul do a good job as sisters-in-arms. Another Bollywood villain Ashutosh Rana marks his Tamil debut in a Lingusamy film after Atul Kulkarni in "Run" and Milind Soman in "Paiyya", and thankfully lets his menacing eyes do the talking rather than rave and rant like regular Kollywood villains.

Lingusamy does a good job in fleshing out the sparring of Arya and Sameera, with the former obviously enjoying his bad boy act. Though there is nothing new in terms of the story or screenplay, the movie is a fun ride as long as it lasts.

Apparently not, as our friends in Kollywood purchased the Tamil remake rights and entrusted the reins to Shankar, the biggest Indian director. Upon watching the film, the first thing that strikes you is how incredibly lazy it is. Apart from a few song picturisations, which themselves feel cut and pasted from past Shankar triumphs, there is absolutely nothing new in Nanban, if you have watched 3 Idiots that is. The plot is exactly the same, the dialogue appears to have been translated from the Hindi by a machine and what’s worse, for much of the film it’s a shot by shot rendering. Clearly, Shankar the director was on a break from making two Rajinikanth films back to back and having too good a time to put his own stamp on Nanban.
So, what then was the point of remaking 3 Idiots? The answer lies in Vijay and in the anti-Hindi agitations in Tamil Nadu in the 60s. On January 25, 1965, a day ahead of India adopting Hindi as her official language, the resolutely non-Hindi state of Madras (as she was then) went up in flames protesting the imposition of the non-Dravidian language in a Dravidian state. Though matters simmered down, Hindi and by extension Hindi cinema never really percolated down to the Tamil grass roots unlike elsewhere in the country and in the three neigh boring states of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka. Hence, a large percentage of the Tamil Nadu population, especially those living outside of the urban agglomerations, are unlikely to have watched 3 Idiots. And hardly anybody watches Hindi-language television there anyway and therefore a television audience for 3 Idiots would have been low.
Thus, here’s an event picture with a marquee star and the country’s most flamboyant director, being released on a popular holiday. It makes total economic sense as the gargantuan opening numbers for Nanban attest to. Therefore those decriers of Nanban as a pale and pointless version of 3 Idiots have only half a point. Pale it may be, but pointless it is not as it is catering to a brand new audience. We only have to look into our Superstar’s career to get more examples. Amitabh Bachchan reigned over most of the Indian box office in the 70s and 80s but for the Tamil audience, many of his superhits like Don, Deewar, Amar Akbar Anthony, Trishul and Mard, to name but a few, were remade starring Rajinikanth. It wasn’t confined to Bachchan alone as Dharmendra starrer Maa and Amol Palekar starrer Golmaal were also refashioned in Tamil as Rajinikanth vehicles. And today, Vijay, who goes by the title of Ilaya Thalapathy (Junior Superstar), is trying to refashion himself in the original Superstar’s image. The release of Nanban saw the erection of several giant Vijay cutouts across India that were anointed in milk in Thalaivar fashion. A gentle reminder to Vijay fans – the original article is still very much around and Kochadaiyaan begins shooting on January 19.

Gossip Girl is finally nearing its return and executive producer Joshua Safran has a lot to say about the upcoming phase of Season 5, beginning tomorrow night at 8 p.m. EST on the CW.
The last we saw of Blair and Chuck, they reunited in the fall finale, but as we know from the promo pics, Blair is getting married to Louis in the 100th episode (January 30). So what gives?
What does the future hold for Chair, how does Dan fit into the mix, and does Louis stand a chance? Excerpts from Safran's interview with TV Line (follow the link for their full interview) below ...
On the royal wedding: "I wouldn’t say necessarily that Blair is getting married to Louis in the 100th episode, but there definitely is an event scheduled. What happens at that event is TBD."
On the time jump between the midseason finale and right now: "You’re going to find out [Monday] what has happened. There’s a significant time jump between Episodes 10 and 11. "
"A lot of the episode is told in flashback. You’ll definitely learn why they’ve gone from professing their future plans to each other in the back of the limo to Blair walking down the aisle with Louis."
"[Monday's] episode very much takes place from Chuck and Blair’s point of view ... The decision to continue to grow and not regress becomes more of a struggle for Chuck in upcoming episodes."
